CAF updates AFCON winning prize
One week before AFCON kicks off, Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) announces that the winning team will bring home USD 7 M. đź’°
It’s quite interesting to see the announcements around CAF unfold. While the broadcasting saga continues, which some see as a sign that the commercialisation of the competition is still challenging, CAF continues to make headlines around the business of the Africa’s most popular competition.
đź“ŁYesterday, CAF announced that the competition would get a total prize pool of USD 21 M.
• Winning team will get USD 7 M (a 40% increase from previous year)
• Runner-ups will get USD 4 M
• The two semi-finalists will get USD 2.5 M
• The four quarter finalists will get USD 1.3 M.
🔍By increasing its prize money, CAF takes the Asia Cup’s spot in the ranking of continental sports competition’s prize money pool. The Copa America has also increased its prize money, keeping its second spot. Euro keeps its #1 spot by a large margin (the winner of this year’s Euro will take home USD 30 M)
