Can the Springboks win it back to back ? πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ†

The Rugby World Cup is here πŸ‰ !

South Africa's Springboks are in Paris to defend their title πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

πŸ“Œ The Springboks have had an impact on African Rugby like no other teams.

πŸ†In 1995, the team won its first World Cup at home - the first international sports event the country ever hosted- just following the end of apartheid.

πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† In 2019, in Tokyo, the team won its third title with Siya Kolisi as the first black captain of the team. Now can they make it a repeat ?

πŸ“Ί If you have been to SA, you know how popular the Springboks are just by looking at the billboards alone. I'll probably post a breakdown on how the team is a blueprint for sports sponsorship in Africa as the tournament advances.

🌍 While SA Rugby has been at the top, the rest of Africa is catching on !

In 2018, APO Group released a report on the rise of Rugby in Africa, naming the sport the fastest growing in Africa : the report found that Rugby Africa counted an increase of 84% in union members (today Rugby Africa counts 38 union members.)

Zimbabwe πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό and Tunisia πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡³ will be hosting the Men and Women Rugby Africa Seven Tournaments : each winning team will get their ticket for the 2024 Paris Olympics, while the second and third teams will get another chance to qualify.

I'm excited to see how the #RWC2023 and the Springbok's bring attention to the sport. Rugby Africa counts an audience of 140K across its social media platform, let's see whether they can capitalise on the Springbokss performance ! πŸ“²

Currently, the Rugby World Cup France 2023 is set to be broadcasted in Africa by SuperSport and STARZPLAY. The current President of Rugby Afrique, Herbert Mensah, as a former player and a telecoms entrepreneur, certainly understands the importance of media rights and building a fanbase.

He has also been pushing for more African countries to build dedicated infrastructure for the sport : a rugby stadium is currently under construction in his own home country, Ghana ! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡πŸŸ
